Hiwi the Kiwi

Hiwi the Kiwi Show
The Minstrel came and taught us about caring for our marine environment.
He sang songs and was really funny.
We are writing stories that include things that we learnt.  There is a prize of an awesome fishing rod for the best school story.  Get writing everyone!

Nareise's winning story for Room 10 went through to the finals.  Good Luck Nareise!

The Awesome Fishing Day – Sort of!

“Whoosh!”  A big wave swept us over.

It all started on a normal day.  I called Minstrel, Cooper, Lucy, Ciara and Frank to go on an awesome fishing trip.  I told them to pack a special ruler, life jacket, flare, locator beacon and a fishing rod.  Minstrel offered to use his boat.  Lucy asked, “What day?”
I said, “Christmas Day.”  So Christmas Eve they all stayed at mine and packed.  We got into bed at 6:30 and got up at 1:00 to set off on our fishing trip.  We packed everything, including torches and drove out.

We unloaded the trailer and went out to sea.  We caught one tuna, two snapper, three trout and two marlin.  We left and out of nowhere,  “WHOOSH!”  A big wave swept us over.

We were bobbing up and down in our life jackets.  I found the locator beacon and flare and used them.  We saw a plane above us and we started waving.  They zoomed down and hung out a ladder.  We hopped in and a man said,  “Good job for wearing a life jacket and using the flares and locator beacon.”

They dropped us off at my house.  They said they would try and save Minstrel’s boat.  Minstrel said,  “He’s right.  Good job, you saved us!  Now let’s ask if we can get a towel and some hot chocolate with marshmellows.”  We got what we wanted and went to my room.  “We totally had the most awesome trip ever.  It was like a thousand birds flying up at us.” I said.  Mum came in and said, “It’s time for them to leave.  I said goodbye and let them go home with their mum.
